1. Get rid of the "flying" right turn onto Williamson Street to reduce speeds and improve visibility.2. Improve the sight lines for all stopped and approaching traffic.3. Add more "wiggle room" to the bike lane crossing of the railroad tracks so that cyclists can cross the racks at more perpendicular angles.4. Bigger bicycle "islands" on the corner of the Willie Street, Blair, and John Nolan to accommodate backed-up cyclists waiting for the lights to change while still allowing room to go around waiting cyclists while going through the intersection. 5. Arrange for a left turn into the Machinery Row parking lot and open up the sight lines around the blind corner on the M.R. building. In short, improve the sight lines so that all users can see and anticipate other traffic and provide adequate room for waiting groups of cyclists at the intersection that are coming off the John Nolan and Cap City bike routes. Who hasn't been frustrated with this intersection?! While the intersection is scheduled to be reconstructed in 2017, the City is interested in making smaller improvements to make bicycling safer and more convenient in this intersection in 2012 - 2013. Please reply with the following information: 1. What problems have you experienced at this intersection? 2. Do you have ideas for specific improvements? I am currently compiling the information and will submit final feedback to the city early next week. Please respond with your comments no later than this FRIDAY. Thank you, Amanda ________________________ Amanda White Associate Director Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin (608) 251-4456 [email protected] www.bfw.org Saris Gala - Nov. 12 Don't miss your chance to meet members of the 1986 7-Eleven Cycling Team!
