I doubt that OpenSRS is that concerned that some RSPs may leave, as they are
able to attract new ones to replace those that leave. They make it very
simple and inexpensive to enter the field, so they do not need to worry
about replacements.

It appears that the OpenSRS business model is set up for numerous small RSPs
that register a few domains each per month. Therefore they are not
concerned that the few that register hundreds or thousands per month may
leave over their pricing policy.

It is a waste of time to complain about pricing in these lists. If you find
a company with a better price, use them.

The only reason we still monitor this list is we have a large number of
domains registered with OpenSRS. As renewal comes up, we will probably be
moving them to a different Registrar where we do receive a better price and
service.

We appreciate what OpenSRS has done for the industry. Had they not come
along and initially cut prices, we would all probably still be paying much
higher prices for domain registration. As far as I know, they were the
first one to offer $10 registrations for resellers. We were paying $15.00
per year when we switched to them.

The company that was charging the $15.00 per year is now matching the $10
per year and less for volume resellers. So as a result of OpenSRS actions,
this company was forced to lower prices to keep from losing it's resellers.

Which means that we are able to offer lower prices to our clients. We can
match the prices of easyhosting.com and still make money off the
registration.

Subject: Re: Re[2]: $12 and under Domain Registration

When I entered this business, I expected that I would have to write all
of the scripts, etc. myself. I choose OpenSRS simply because they had
the lowest price, and therefore the highest margin for me. When I found
that they had sample scripts, well that was a bonus, but the choice was
already made, and that didn't affect my decision. If I were to enter
this business today, I might not choose them.

My prices, marketing, etc. are adjusted based on what the competition
is doing. My costs (for domain names) are still the same as they were
on day one: US$10. Domain sales are high for OpenSRS and they have no
incentive to lower prices while they are still doing good business.
Meanwhile, it is us, the RSPs who are taking the hit of the additional
competition in the industry. All I can say to OpenSRS is be careful how
you treat the RSPs. They are the lifeblood of your business. If RSPs
are having trouble attracting customers without taking a loss, and they
know they can offer the same service without the need to take a loss,
they will move. It may take some time for them to get that pissed off
about it, but beware, once the exodus begins, it may not be stoppable.
I hope OpenSRS responds before it is too late.
