It works fine here but I'm not sure what part is non-working for you. First we should get fstab-sync working. Are you sure that your hotplug installation works fine, i.e. you're using either classic hotplug (so that hal.hoptlug link in /etc/hotplug.d/default should be called) or pure udev (with an appropriate udev rule for hal)? If you start hal-device-manager (or lshal) and then plug in the device, can you see the added hardware in the application?
