OK. I'll maybe try a build with elfhack disabled tomorrow on my
haswell, to confirm space measurements and to see if the startup time
appears to be impacted.
Meanwhile, trying clang-5.0 on an 8.2 system (I know I said "don't",
but things need to be confirmed - and gentoo appear to require
llvm >= 4.0)..
