Hope you fix it Chris.

It does sound hauntingly familiar to the crashes I got on my old upgrade
though. Anything disk intensive would cause the machine to fall over. I
could never complete a virus scan. The misleading error message feedback
was that it was probably a video drive conflict . I therefore upgraded my
video card, updated my video driver , doubled my system ram and changed a
hard disc. all to no avail. It was only when I went back to sp1 that the
problem disappeared on that machine.
For some reason the hardware just did not like sp2. Computers can drive you
nuts.
Regards

David

Hi, I'm fully aware that upgrading isn't a risk free process, but her copy
of XP SP3 is fine; it's when she does disk intensive tasks, like virus
scans, that her pc starts to have problems. Actually, I should point out
that the unit did feel quite warm, particularly at the place where the fans
are and at the bottom of the unit, where the battery goes etc.
