I actually think the digital topic is less hopeless.

Over the 15 or so years I've been playing audiogames, I've seen both the frequency of directly playable games, and games that could be easily modified by the developer to be screen reader friendly increase exponentially.

This is both due to the rise of mobile gaming and more indi developers, and  improved compatibility of technology like html5, and is definitely a good thing.

We're even seeing more experimental audiogame projects as I said, and there are of course several very dedicated audiogame developers still out there.

I see this trend very much as increasing in the future.

Analogue gaming ironically is rather worse off.

As usual it's the old arguement, %90 of blind people are over seventies, so much of the specialist equipment is only aimed at that age group.

You can get braille playing cards or monopoly of course, but braille adapted boardgames or rpg dice? No way.

I was even once told by the RNIB Here in Britain that "blind people aren't interested in those sorts of things" when I raised the issue (then again the RNIB is so biased towards the elderly it's unbelievable).

I have heard of a company, 64 oz games who do produce some adapted cards etc, though what their current state is I don't know.

Unfortunately it's also a chicken and egg situation, since without the adaptation there, it's really hard to find groups of role players and gamers offline, particularly as I said with tabletop games having fallen off in favour of ccgs and wargames with miniatures it seems.

I got lucky for quite a few years because friends of friends from  university were running games, but unfortunately, between said players deciding to have children, and my wife and I moving to a small town without a university we can't find anyone to play with anymore, even if we could find adapted materials to do so, indeed as I said, it seems most people over thirty are obsessed with their offspring or poisoning their brain cells to the exclusion of everything else.

so these days, digital gaming is likely all there is, so it's good things are improving.

all the best,

Dark.
