Hi, Allan.
I checked Amazon.com and I think I see four books that might do the job.
The first is the actual Wizard's of the Coasts rule books in a boxed set
with Player's guide, Dungeon Masters guide, and Monsters guide. Not
having read them I am just concerned how well they would scan.
Especially, if there are any tables of stats and things, but it looks
like the previous links would help with that. Not sure if any of those
books would aid in a few canned stories and characters to practice with.
The other book that looks promising is Dungions and Dragons for Dummies.
Not quite up to 3.5 level, but it looks like it gives a step by step
walkthrough for an absolute beginner such as myself.
I did notice the DND minatures come with a basic rule book and a sample
RPG game.
As you mentioned creating your own character and story is the funnist
part of the game, but before I get there I would feel better if I could
practice with some actual stories and characters before diving in and
start working on my own RPGs. Which is my hope.
I will take you up on your offer for a introduction document. After all,
you asked a while back how to get in to the game programming business,
and this is where you start by helping devs start developing there own
with good ideas or instructions. Smile.
Thanks for the help.
