  Hi, Orin.
Perhaps the major game companies have stopped mass producing
side-scrolling games, but the game industry has left some game legends
behind like Mario Brothers, Megaman, Castlevania, Legend of Kage, and
Double dragon. In their day they were top-sellers. There are still fans
  of the old NES titles.
The important thing to remember is many blind gamers on this list never
had a chance to experience those games as I had when I could see. Even
though people might think them out of date they were still full of fun.
In Double dragon you had to jump over barrels, fight a guy for a bat,
etc... How does time reduce the fun of a game?
As for 3D game you might want to explain yourself more as allot of
people confuse virtual 3D audio and virtual 3D graphics with 3D game. If
you are speaking of 3D audio a 2D game can use 3D audio which means the
game is still 2 dementional with virtual 3D audio to give the player a
better soundscape. Likewise a 2D game can have virtual 3D graphics. The
game is still 2D, but everything appears to be in 3D. Then, there is the
3D game with everything being 3D. By 3D I mean the player can move up
and down, move from side to side, and forward and backwards. Naturally,
a virtual 3D soundscape is required for this type of game.
Let's get to the point with this. Take two of GMA's titles. SOD is a 2D
game with a 3D virtual audio environment. Lonewolf the submarine appears
to be in a 3D environment, but with only a 2D stereo soundscape. What a
piddy as I think Lonewolf would rock with virtual 3D audio.
