Hi richard,
There are several different compilers. Dev cpp, visual Studio, and
Borland C++ are all different IDE's that can be used.
As it happens dev cpp uses the open source gcc compiler to compile your
code. Gcc is a very good compiler for cross platform work in C++, and is
pretty flexible. However, it doesn't have everything you need to do
Windows programming with the Win32 API as far as I know.
