This reminds me of the time I called National Fuel Gas and told them there was a leak outside and the gas fumes were coming into my kitchen. The gas company sent a man out with his meter and told me there wasn't a leak and it was my imagination. I than told him to wait a moment, and I would be right back. I came out with a large box of kitchen matches and started to light them and throw them around the property. He didn't think it was funny and told me he found the leak. The next day, they had their crew digging up the pipe across the street and by evening, I didn't have the fumes in my kitchen. David, Now, I know you are going to think that I am a liar - but - one of the local plumbers tests for leaks by lighting a rolled newspaper and passes it around the new connection. The first time I saw him do this I was headed for some other place to be! I suppose that so long as there was not a build up of gas this is probably safe but, no thanks folks. The soap you spoke of is something like Dawn dishwashing soap. It will do a great job of bubbling up if there is a leak. How do you test for a gas leak my friend? I've watch plumbers rub soap on the connections and look for bubbles.
