I don't think that I will have any problem aligning the rings since they
will all be uniform. I haven't got far enough to think about the different
woods but it sounds like an interesting way. Years ago my brother at school,
turned a lamp out of different woods first glued together. One thought that
I did have is to round over both edges of the circles before I cut the
inside hole.

Lenny I am not much of a wood guy but a question or 2 comes to mind once
you cut your circles that you are going to start with How are you going to
make sure that the inside holes all line up perfect. You might want to
consider using a template of some type for all of the rings.
Another idea I would have is if you wanted to make it square you could cut a
bunch of squares how ever large you need and then if you have a drill press
it would be easy to set your fence and all that so they would all come out
perfectly lined up.
And for visual appeal
You could consider some thing like diferant hard woods that have different
colors to them.
Then you could stack them one light and one dark.and it would have some what
of a flag appearance
Remember now I am not a credible resource for wood working. These are just
some ideas rolling around in my head
Good luck.

I considering making some wine buckets for Christmas gifts. I got the idea
from an acrylic iceless one that I have. When you place a cold bottle in it
keeps it cold for quite a while. I also read about some stainless steel
double walled ones.
I am wondering if wood would be enough of an insulator?
The construction technique would be to cut about 10 or 11 circles. Then cut
another hole in the center of all but one. Then stack and glue the rings to
the one full sized circle. I would then take the remaining circles of wood
to make coasters. I would take one square block and glue in a rod and place
the coasters over the rod for storage. That is the basic construction. Any
thoughts? Would this work for an insulator?
