Your present router may be a wireless router. Does it have one or two about three inch long antennae attached? If so you already have what you need.
If not then you want to buy a wireless router, Linksys sells a couple of models as to D-Link and many others. It is very similar to your present router and most, maybe all have four RJ45 connections for hard wired devices along with the wireless transmitter and receiver.Last one I bought was about a hundred bucks but there are so many about now you can probably get them cheaper. Any modern notebook computer will have WiFi built in and should be able to talk to a wireless router. You would probably need to add a WiVi wireless card to a desktop computer and you may need to add one to an older notebook computer. Hope this is helpful. ----- Original Message ----- From: Brice Mijares To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, November 27, 2008 10:26 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] wireless network card Okay, currently I have a cable modem that goes in to a Linksy router. I have the NIC card. Question; I want to buy a lap top so I can use it down stairs or out on the patio. Someone once told me I could buy something that I could hook up to my hardware firewall slash router that would send a wireless signal to the laptop. Is this correct? if so, what is this device called? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Trouble" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, November 27, 2008 4:03 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] wireless network card > As a verizon tech I wouldn't recommend these types of network hook > ups.
