I wonder if the knob has become loose or otherwise is no longer engaging the
diverter valve inside. Might just be a loose screw so that the knob is no
longer shifting the mechanism which redirects the flow.

Did you take off the shower head and see if that might be the problem? Next
check the center valve and see if it needs repairs.

  Aloha everyone,
I have a bathtub that has three knobs, hot water, cold water, and one
in the center that makes the water go up and out of the shower nozzle.

This morning I turn the center knob and after a very small stream
started coming out of the shower nozzle, there was a very loud pipe
rattling noise and no water was coming out of the nozzle. So, not
believing what I heard, I tried it again and turned the knob all the
way to the open position. At that point there was no water coming out
of the shower nozzle, just all still pouring into the tub. What's the
problem? I did listen to see if I heard water running or dripping
inside the wall, but can hear nothing. Fortunately we have another
bathtub, but need to get this one working again.
Thanks for all your suggestions in advance,
  Betsy
