You'll love getting the faucet out as much as moving that desk too.  

Even though the screw was tightened did you notice any grinding or feel like it 
was slipping?  If it felt funny you may want to take the screw out and pull the 
handle off.  Take a pair of vise grips or pliers and see if you can turn the 
stem sticking out.  See if the shower works after twisting the valve stem all 
the way.  

I don't think this will be the problem but they are all steps you go through to 
avoid having to change out the faucet part.

  I took the shower nozzle completely off, no help. I found the piece 
  of paneling in my office that probably allows access to the pipes, 
  but I have an L shaped desk, a total of ten feet that has to be moved 
  before any more progress can be attempted. I must say, I just love
