Pop out the cover of the glove box light.  There's a bolt through the top of 
the glove box underneath it.  Well actually it's above it, but you know what I 
mean.

Chad and Scott,

Some years back, I had an alignment done by a tire and wheel place in
Campell (Calif). The tech, a young but very consiensious kid, put a thick
wire brace on the steering wheel that kept the wheel centered. He also had
me sit in the car to simulate the normal weight on the front end.

ah ha.

There is no other hole I know of on that side of the car that goes through
the fire wall.  My wires were run through that battery cable grommet, it
wasn't pretty, but it worked.  I've just recently modified the whole thing,
but that's easy to do when then entire interior is out of the car.  Most of
the wiring harness runs from the drivers side across the interior of the
firewall to the passenger side where you'll find things like the ABS
computer, the cruise control computer, yada^2

The glove box should practically fall out if you have all the screws out,
did ya get the one by the light?

Yeah.. I looked at the engine side of the firewall and
it looks like the rubber sleeve does not have any more
room to accomodate any more wires. 

The instructions that came with the VDO kit say to cut
one of the nipple. I do see some nipples under the
jumpstart connector next to the hole where the battery
cables comes through. But I did not see the opening
from the inside.

I had a novice student once who was also a flight instructor.  We compared
notes as to what the differences were, and he remarked that he didn't think
he could do what I was doing, to be a track instructor.  When I asked him
why not, he replied, "because I have a set of controls myself, AND it's 5000
feet to the concrete, rather than 5 feet!!!"

A large impact wrench (twin hammer, 400 + ft/lbs) seems to do the trick 
quite nicely.  I've had several removed this way.  Takes less than 30 
seconds.  32mm nut if I recall.

Control is the key.  You need to take control of the situation as soon as you 
sit down in the car and establish a rapport with the students that lets you 
"control" the car verbally.

remember your first school? You were probably talked through every "Easy 
squeeze" of the gas and brake pedals...when and where to press wich pedal where 
to look, when to signal passes, where to be on the track.  Instructors are 
driving the car with a crude form of voice control instead of pedals and 
wheels.  and they get one or two sections on long straights per lap to *maybe* 
explain an element of "why."

It takes a lot of focus, particularly since you have to feel what's happening 
around you and adjust CONSTANTLY, but it's really gratifying when it flows and 
the student learns a lot.   Plus, I feel like I owe the club for the previous 
generation of instructors who taught ME.  I don't want to shell out $2k for 
Skippy school.

Whenever I instruct, I always tend to seek out the newer BMW and
Porsche owners.  Witnessing first hand the ability of both DSC and PSM
save drivers, I always tell my students to keep the stability control
on.  Not only does it give me piece of mind, but it is simple to tell
students where they are pushing too hard and not pushing enough with a
safety net.

The most important thing I tell newbies is that they have to drive
within their means.  I have no qualms letting a student know that I
think they are pushing too much for their skill level.  Its been said
a millions times before (and to me when I started):  DEs are not
races, and you aren't going to get a prize at the end.  The
satisfaction comes from learning and being able to drive home in one
piece once the day ends.

The photos indicate the passenger compartment was
quite intact. Accordingly, I don't know if a cage
would have done much to help. I would assume it was
the impact that caused the fatalities.  Although
serious injuries can happen at any speed, I wouldn't
track a Viper, Z06 or Carrera GT type of car without a
HANS and full safety equipment. The speeds they can
reach are far in excess of your average clubracer and
beyond the safety envelope designed into street cars.

P.S. At the risk of making someone angry, my
experience at Ferrari club events is that the driving
level is rather low and there are some very good
advanced drivers in the advanced group with other
drivers that have no business being there. Sounds like
