In case anyone is interested, it was the water pump. The PO had it
replaced and the shop used one with the plastic impeller. It failed.

That got me wondering. Where do all the pieces go when they break off?
Should I be concerned about that?

It is an easy job to do and the E34 has plenty of room with the radiator
in place.

I had the same thing on the touring. I need to splice a wire around the
harness to turn on the amp.

Marc,

Whatever you do, NEVER CUT THE OEM CAR HARNESS!!
And do everything you can to avoid splicing directly
into those wires with tee-offs.

I think the in-car harness remote turn-on for the OEM
amp is a white wire, but I can check for sure tonight,
if you'd like. You need to attach the wire to the blue
one on the new stereo harness (or whatever wire color
is labeled as remote turn-on, or something of the
like).

Peter,

Hehehe, funny you should mention that Peter. I was
going to mention something similar, in that my
experience was when I wired up my stereo in my now
gone 93 325, I think I had connected the antenna wire
on the new stereo harness to the white wire on the
car's harness. I noticed that it only had audio when
playing CDs, and I was completely confused. I
actually thought that the head unit was defective and
exchanged it for another one. ^_^

At the time, I couldn't find many other people who had
suffered the same problem on the net, so after finding
a few details about the wiring harness (including the
exact diagram you linked to, I just went ahead and
tried connecting the remote wire of the new stereo
harness (the wire was labeled 'REMO', and I wasn't
quite sure what that was the first time around) to the
white wire, and VOILA, it worked.

it is a white wire

If you connect the ant and not the rem blue wires, being the antenna
and not the remote turn on, the radio amplifier will only work with the
cd player on, the rem is for the unit as a whole, the amp, and the
antenna or ant is for the antenna only.

one should be blue, the other blue with a white stripe

here's factory wiring if you need it.

Updated the wiring harness and reinstalled. Everything works great. Now I
just need to get the installation bracket to hold the unit firmly in place.

Thanks again,

Marc

Thanks.

Strange. the White wire you indicated in your last email to me in the stock
harness corresponds to a blue wire labeled as "Antenna+" on the adapter
harness I got from BestBuy, which is why I left it disconnected. I'll
connect the blue/white (Rem) from the head unit, look for sparks and listen
for music.

I'd never cut the harness or tap into it. I want to leave everything easily
reversable for future sale of the car (in 150k miles or so...)

Thanks, Carlos, Peter, and Brian. This list is awesome.

Did anyone find installation instructions for the E30 glass sunroof? Or BMW
diagrams/descriptions from the Factory Manual or Parts CD's? It *sounds*
like the glass panel can pretty much be installed in place of the metal
panel, and the privacy shade does not need any special components either,
but I'd sure like to be more certain before the donor car goes to the
crusher!

Thanks,

Hi Rod,
Read your post on the thrust arm bushings. I have the 750 bushings installed
now for about 5 years. Still going strong.
I have also installed the normal lower aluminum arm.
I noticed you mention 'adjustable inner swing arm mounts". What are these?
Which car do they come from?

I believe Rod means to install adjustable rear semi-trailing arm mounts as
the factory did for the E34 M5. Ireland Engineering has a kit for E30s that
appears to me to fit an E34/ E28/E24. Two kits can be installed, one with
the slot up and down for camber and the other with the slot front to back
for toe.

Subject: <E34> 1995 525 Touring Questions
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi all. I just picked up the above car for my wife and have a couple
questions:
1. What is the best source these days for a CD changer for the car? It
is pre-wired, seems like plugging one in would be painless compared to a
new head unit.
2. Anyone done a transmission fluid flush on one of these lately? It
has the GM transmission with no dipstick (what a silly idea) and at 85k,
I figure it's due. Any major gotchas?
3. Anyone have any good thoughts on cleaning the mousefur headliner?
Mine has dark smudges, presumably from sunroof work.

Finally, there was talk last week of renting the glass roof lift shock
tool. If Brett A. doesn't rent it, I would be willing to look into
buying the tool if a couple other Touring owners were interested in
renting it. Of course this assumes I can figure out where to get it.
Please email me off list if you are interested.

Many thanks,
