With a large number of files (I think I remember one being 1000+), you are asking the BN and operating system to do a lot of work in terms of retrieving, collating and sorting those entries and, therefore, I'm not surprised it takes a long time - although five minutes does seem a bit excessive! Sorry, don't have any thoughts on the network card aspect.
