Actually, Terry, they have you open any laptop case or bag and take
out the equipment anyhow, so she can carry it in a knapsack or
whatever, she will have to show it to them. If asked, tell what it
is in simple terms, "This is a BrailleNote MPower, made by Humanware.
It's a PDA for the blind." As I say, they have it on their list. If
they're awake and thinking, they'll know what it is.
Warning, you'll have to take off your shoes and all that too. and
best not to wear any metal objects that is really big.
They may decide to wand you, Stacy, it is just one of those things
they do. They'll tell you if they're going to do that.
Depending on the airport, they may put Stacy through a puffer. I
dunnow what they're really called, but you stand on a pad and you get
air blown on you from below. They do that to analyze the air when it
touches you, searches for explosives or something. They do it in a
little booth so nobody can see it. But the air's tested or somesuch.
It's kinda weird feeling.
I suppose if we live in the world we do, this is the kind of thing we
have to endure. I'd rather be screened well and have the security
people err on the side of caution than not, I guess.
