I lied, I did do something else, tried using one of the cards HW sent to me,
one I never expected to get in the mail, but I did not format, just replaced
the kn.bin file. Different results, as mentioned in another message and
also as mentioned, I think I may never be able to upgrade again unless there
is some revisions made to the boot loader file that need to be changed. See
other message for details.

My hunch is that something unobtrusive went awry with the 7.0 upgrade that
is preventing the upgrade process.

I am glad to hear I am not the only person this is happening to.

I am not messing with it now until we hear something more definitive from
HW.

Rose, you are not alone. I am getting exactly the same as you, using a
flashcard (formatted and reformatted) that is perfectly readable and useable
on the BN, etc etc etc. Whatever I do, boot loader or no boot loader (even
if it's not needed) just the same old flashcard error.
There is absolutely no use in people keeping on posting the same
instructions over and over again - they don't work.
I'm leaving any more messing around until we get some sensible answers from
HumanWare.
I wouldn't be bothering with the patch upgrade if I hadn't experienced some
of the problems listed in the fixes.
Hope you have the patience to wait till this is sorted, Rose. If it ain't
broke then don't fix it is probably the best advice I can give if you're
already up and running with a stable version.
Wioth best wishes,
Dennis Freedman.

Thank you from a user who has seen about 50 SD card errors in the past 24
hours.

Subject: [BrailleNote] some concerns with 7.01 installation

Dear list members, particularly HumanWare staff,

This is Joseph. I have some concerns with KeySoft 7.01 installation and
related documents.
HumanWare released KeySoft 7.01 earlier this week. The problems that were
experienced by many users e.g. downloading issue, has been fixed. The
documentation on installation of KeySoft 7.01 lists the features and
problems that were fixed by this maintenance release. Although number of
users were successful in installing KS7.01, many users expressed that they
were not able to install it successfully. BrailleNote and VoiceNote mPower
users in particular experienced this issue.
A number of users were confused about whether they should boot to bootloader
first, or whether they should boot to ROM image. Some people said that the
bootloader isn't needed (according to one of HumanWare staff, the bootloader
is updated with KeySoft 7.0, meaning that the bootloader is unnecessary).
The documentation states nothing about installing the patch properly. It
just states, "you can skip the instructions on how to install KeySoft 7.0."
This meant that the user needs to boot to the bootloader. The zip file that
was posted to the KeySoft 7.01 page did not have the bootloader file called
eboot.bin. Here is my concern: if HumanWare staff didn't post the bootloader
file, then the documentation should have stated some changes to installation
procedures.
The second issue that a number of users has expressed is that certain users
cannot upgrade using their SD cards. One user reported that she gets SD card
error when upgrading. One suggestion was to format the SD card from the
Prepare SD Card for Upgrade program, which is found on KeySoft System
Disk\Windows folder. Even doing that still results in the same error. My
concern is this: what is going on with these SD cards? Are there any
solutions for these SD card errors?
My points are: one, please give us the proper installation procedures for
KS7.01 (whether the bootloader file is required or not, and what the user
must do first when upgrading from KeySoft 7 to 7.01), and, two, pleass tell
us what is going on with so called "SD Card error." I would like to
apologize if this post became long and it is out of bounds. Thank you for
considerations.
