The problem comes, not so much in the design of such a product with such a 
replaceable battery, but the modification of an existing product to make its 
battery user-replaceable.  This may very well, if it ever came to pass, cause 
an increase in the price of the BN.
One other point to keep in mind is that most of us have had to send our BN's 
away for at least a week or two, possibly twice, in order  to have the hardware 
modified, and most users I know would be very hesitant to part with their units 
again unless the need were dire.

I don't believe, albeit I am not sure what it all entails, that redesigning 
the BrailleNote so as to allow people to install a battery(ies) would 
necessary increase the cost by a thousand dollars or even more.  There is a 
third party note taker that has this functionality and it does not even cost 
up to $6,000.  It can be done if there is the will!
