That company is out of business now. My only point in putting the
information on this list is that I suspect that such a modification
could be made to the BN wout its costying a fortune. Of course, it
would ultimately depend on the design.
I would like to see far fewer reasons to have to send a major piece
of adaptive technology clear across the country for repair and have
to be without it for perhaps weeks reduced in frequency. Battery
replacement is, I believe, doable. Obviously, thorough cleaning and
repair requires that shipment, long wait, and the risk of damage
during ransit, let alone cost.

I have an old Braille Lite 40. A few years ago I had it modified so
that it now has a replaceable battery and also uses metal hidride
rather than nicads. I had some other work done at the same time, so I
can't say for sure what the cost was, but I think my total bill was
under $300 for everything, including cleaning.
