And who did this for you?
I know that Freedom Scientific doesn't do that kind of modifications.

GENERATIONBRAILLENOTEBATTERIES:ASUGGESTIONORTWO?

Hi,

I have an old Braille Lite 40. A few years ago I had it modified so
that it now has a replaceable battery and also uses metal hidride
rather than nicads. I had some other work done at the same time, so I
can't say for sure what the cost was, but I think my total bill was
under $300 for everything, including cleaning.
