Dear Mr. Janusauskas:
There is just one other question, then I will leave this subject.
I'm trying to put this in a diplomatic way, but may not succeed.
I don't mind calling Tech Support. After you have waited on the
phone for quite a while, you don't actually get an answer. I
conferenced with someone who wanted to go back to 6.11 on her
classic, because she is having so many difficulties. The person
my friend spoke with said, "you don't want to do that." She was
also advised not to upgrade her classic to more than a 7.1. She
was told that the classic really cannot handle any more upgrades.
I sat here with my mouth open, because not long ago, we were told
8.0 would be the last version for the classic.
In calling Tech support, I would hope that we receive the same
information. It's just like the post about Gmail. A Tech
support person said it is supported. We know it's actually not.
I apologize for this lengthy post.

Hi Don,
Thanks for this, and well said.
You are correct in that the recent post from Maurice was only
meant as a
reminder or point of clarification for subscribers who may be new
to the
list. There is no real change being made, and we hope to see the
HumanWare
family continue to assist one another and to exchange ideas and
suggestions
as has been the case for several years now.
A number of us do monitor the list, but also have other
responsibilities
that could cause us to miss a post or other information that was
meant for
someone at HumanWare to see or respond to. Anyone wishing to
obtain
technical support from a HumanWare team member, or wishing to
make sure
that a discovered bug or issue is reported and documented should
use more
direct channels to contact us, and should not rely on us seeing
the post on
the list.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Matthew Janusauskas

Hi Rhonda,
I certainly can't and won't pretend to speak for Maurice, but
what I
understood him to say is that the list is designed for discussion
of
problems and issues
and general usage by users. Although Humanware staff may monitor
the list
from time to time, any technical support issues needing a rapid
response
should
be directed to the appropriate Humanware international location.
In other words, you might get a response from Humanware via the
list and
then again you might not.
Actually, I don't see this really as any sort of change since
I've never
seen Humanware suggest that they could provide timely technical
support
through
such a vehicle as the list.
Many tech support issues can be handled by experienced users and
the list
is fine for that, but if you have a problem or other issue which
needs to
be
handled in greater depth by Humanware staff, communicating with
the company
directly is far more reliable.
It may be that the Humanware presence on list may be different
than in
previous times, but I don't think the overall purposes and uses
of the list
have really
changed.
Again, these are my own interpretations of what Maurice is
saying, and if I
am misstating what he said, then I certainly do stand corrected.

"BrailleNote List Members:
There have been a number of discussions recently on the
BrailleNote list of which we would like to address." What did I
miss here? You mentioned a "number of things" in your message.
I'm trying to figure out what we should or shouldn't do. I'm not
wanting to be difficult, I'd just like clarification.
