I've noticed that the school techs are poor shots when it comes to troubleshooting anything other than the macintoshes.

Dear Chaman:

Things to check with your printing problem are that the HP
LaserJet Printer is configured to receive data from its serial
port.

What model of LaserJet are you using?

If its an older LaserJet it may need to have DIP switches set to
tell it to receive data on its serial port instead of a Parallel
port.

Not sure why the Juliet embosser is also giving you grief other
than it too may not be configured to receive data on its serial
port.

Not sure if Enabling technologies, the makers of the Juliet and
many other fine Braille embossers have the owner's manual for the
Juliet on their web site or not, but guess you could have a look
there.

Serial communications can be pesky things to troubleshoot, I've
had to do it a heck of a lot of times over the years.

HP may have the documentation for their printers on their web
site, not sure, as I don't hang out there.

Does your school have a staff member who answers to the name
Computer Geek or Computer Guru?

If it does, and you are trying to print at school, see if you can
enlist their help.

They won't know anything about the BrailleNote but hopefully they
can confirm the printer and embosser are set to receive data on
their serial ports.

You need to set the data rate (Baud rate), Parity, Stop Bits and
flow control on the embosser or printer the same as the
BrailleNote is using or very strange things will happen, like the
embosser or printer will produce random gibberish or nothing at
all or text may start disappearing especially from longer
documents.

Good luck, wish I knew where my Juliet manual on disk was.

Brian
