Hi,
Four years old... That's quite an old unit - no wonder hardware was giving
you problems. Sorry to hear about that.
Personally, I recommend replacing the battery in about every two years to
avoid this problem and to check the power usage regularly via Support
Information Mode.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] More BrailleNote Misery

Hi, everyone. Thank you for being so responsive to my adapter problem. I
called Humanware's technical support this morning and found out that because
I had purchased a four-year-old mPower and had no idea of its battery care
history by its previous owner, the battery might be old enough to be on what
is called a trickle charge. I was told to turn on the BrailleNote and press
space with O for the Options menu, then S with space for the power status.
When I did this, the power was so low that it wouldn't show me the status of
whether my machine was on fast charge or trickle charge. I was to unplug
the adapter after ten minutes, then plug it in again to get it back on fast
charge, but the power was so low that the BrailleNote didn't show me the
status message. It seemed that it was starting to feel a little warm now.
I will let you know if it was able to be revived. If its charge doesn't
become normal, I will have to send the unit in to pay for two upgrades and a
new battery. Word to anyone with a small budget wanting to buy used
equipment: Only buy it factory refurbished, not from individuals or even
from an adaptive equipment store for the blind as I did.
