Sorry about that. ... Charis is absolutely correct!

My g-mail account is indeed an imap account, and I know that likely complicates things.

I don't know what would happen if I switched to a pop-server-type account, although I remember that when I used to have one of those for g-mail, I often had trouble sending e-mails from hotels and other places due to security port issues.

I truly appreciate everyone's patience here, and thank Charis for including the important detail that I left out last night.

Hello,

When Tom wrote his message, he left out one important fact. His personal
email is an imap account.

Dr. Behler,

Welcome to the list!! I hope you find it useful! I see you are a new user of
the BrailleNote. If you would like to learn a wealth of information about
the BrailleNote, including many tips and tricks written by users ourselves, I would encourage you to check out www.braillenoteusers.info. This Web site has many articles, tips, and podcasts about the BrailleNote, all written or
recorded by BrailleNote users from around the world.

As for accessing email on the BrailleNote, I come at this from a few
different perspectives, as I have used 3 different methods now to access the same Gmail account. First, when I got my Gmail account, I used the Gmail Web site to access my email on a Windows laptop using JAWS. Later, I switched to
using Keymail, the email program which is built into the BrailleNote to
access my email, which I used exclusively for almost a year. Here's how I
describe my experiences with Keymail to new users: It worked great... when
it worked at all. As others have said, Keymail is prone to having many
glitches; errors, database corruption, and program crashes. Humanware hasn't made any effort to fix these problems, so far as we (the users) can tell, so
I would say if you want to use Keymail, it's OK, but I'm just warning you
that the program doesn't always work the way it's supposed to. Now I'm using Microsoft Outlook 2010 on the same Windows laptop using JAWS. Actually, I'm
finding Keymail looks a lot like Outlook. Outlook is just a lot more
reliable. Out of all 3 programs, I have found Outlook to be my favorite by
far, and that's not even on a BrailleNote. So, if you want to access email
on the BrailleNote, I would encourage using the Gmail Web site.

Hope this helps,

Chris Nusbaum

Subject: [Braillenote] Doing e-mail with the Braille Note Apex

Hello.

I am a new member of the list, and am learning the ins and outs of my new
Braille Note Apex BT32.

I am trying to figure out the best way to do e-mail with the Apex when I am
coming and going, and hence away from my computer.

The people who gave me my initial training on Tuesday said that the Key Mail
program that comes with the Apex does not work very well, and also has a
tendency to crash. I very much trust their judgment on this, but was
wondering what experiences others have had, and whether there seems to be
any interest on the part of Humanware to fix these problems.

In the meantime, my trainers suggest that I go with trying to access my
personal g-mail account via the g-mail.com web site.

I am going to try to get up and running with this, hopefully fairly soon,
but one question I have is whether there is any way I can import my
already-existing address book into the g-mail.com web site. Currently, I
access my g-mail via Outlook Express on a Windows XP machine, and via
Outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 laptop.

Any thoughts on either aspect of this topic would be appreciated, and thanks
very much for the warm welcome.
