Dear Richard, I have the entire family of products. First, I bought the VoiceNote QT in 2001, I think. Then I bought a BN 32 QT in 2002. I have never upgraded the motherboard or the software past version 3.06. Then, I bought my latest BN QT 32 in 2003. The first two units are working fine and have worked fine since I bought them. I've never had to send in the VoiceNote for repairs and I've only sent the first BN in for cleaning. I haven't sent the new one in at all. My units have been very reliable and stable.
I do agree we need a new and faster processor. My new BN seems more sluggish than my old one. If you should ever recommend a LapTalk to any of your customers, be sure thy know how to use Windows XP. I was led to believe I would receive an instruction manual for Windows and WindowEyes, but I only received the WindowEyes manual and tutorial. So, if your customer is a total beginner, get them some tutorials for Windows XP and whatever software they'll be using. That's one thing I like about the BN--PDI included good manuals for learning how to use it and we have an active list of users. The LapTalk list is very inactive and I learned nothing from it. The WindowEyes list is active and helpful. In my opinion, PDI and GW micro are number 1 for service and reliability. Terri Pannett, Amateur Radio call sign KF6CA.
