The black wire has a resistor at the end. disconnect it from the control box and measure the resistance. it will change with temperature, but should always be stable of a short time. Wiggle the black wire while someone is measuring the temperature and see if it jumps, if so, or maybe just because, shorten the wire. Not that shortening the wire will cause the temperature reading to change slightly because of the reduced resistance but it really should be negligible. If you don't have a meter it's probably time to get one, and a thermometer. Take the top off and put a candy thermometer between the insulation and the boiler. Is there insulation, I don't know, there is on mine now. I want to know if the sensor is telling the truth, is the temperature actually dropping? If the temperature is dropping that one of three switches or relays is not operating properly and we need to find it. A digital voltmeter set to the auto range or 200VAC scale can be used to very carefully check the voltage across each of the switches. It has to be plugged in for this, and all of those wires are live so be really careful. If the red LED on the readout is on and the red steam boiler light is off, there should be power going to the heater. The Brewtus Compendium has a nice clear wiring diagram that shows all the switches and relays the power passes through on it's way to the brew heater. if the brew boiler is not heating, one of those switches or relays is open when it's supposed to be closed. Your job is to find which one. If that's just way over your head and you don't have someone you trust to help you, sorry. If you've a meter but aren't quite sure what to do, send me a private email with your phone and I'll try to help you figure it out.
