Hi Cindy,

Welcome to the group and congratulations on the that "first espresso set-up."

I haven't looked recently to see what sort of "manual" WLL is shipping in the box; I hope it is a CD or DVD instead of a link to our site.. If you have been browsing the internet, you have probably encountered grumbling about how terrible the user Manual is for most machines.

When the Brewtus first came out, the early owners decided to write the manual they wished was shipped with the machine. We literally took apart a couple of machines and drew schematics and photographed how all the parts fit ft together, then through in some operating advice. It's actually pretty good. You will find references to it on the site.

It's sufficiently detailed to be a PITA to print and ship with every machine, but WLL shipped a CD of it with the machines for a while. It was written for the B-I and we did not "update" it for every new model. It is still very good for all the "Vibe" models ... the machine was a sound design from day one. (Not perfect, but very sound within the parameters the manufacture self imposed.) So it will get you through most "problems" that you encounter. WLL has added updates to their copy of it from time to time, but a new owner isn't in a very good position to tell the group, "Hey, here's a list of the latest changes." sigh...

Regarding the location of the PID ... it is in the boiler and the display includes an 18 degree off-set to show the lower temperature at group head. The off-set on the earlier, non-PID machines was much lower, but something in the design changed with the PID and so that is a place where the original manual is no longer up to date. (Just FYI, a lot of user experiments have indicated that it isn't yet very practical to put the PID at the puck in the grouphead on a typical consumer machine ... the sensor gets fouled easily and consumer products need to be fairly robust.) The main thing is on temperature is to learn to trust your tongue ... the numbers are just "relative" measures to keep track of how much of a change you are introducing when you make adjustments. The general rule is: if the espresso is too bitter, lower the temperature. If it is too sour, raise the temperature.

Please do let us know what arrives in YOUR box.

Wishing that the delivery people will be kind to you package,

KittJ

Hello everyone!

Just placed an order from WLL on Friday as well as a Baratza Vario
grinder. I'm very excited and nervous since this is my first espresso
set-up.
Is the PID set to show the temperature at the group? I'm a little confused on this issue.

if there
is anything I should know that the manual may not mention, I would
love to hear it.
