Hi Ira, thanks for the response. I was able to look at the wire and found 
no marks on it. I did however notice a small cut on the gray 'cap' that 
sits right above the hex head that screws into the boiler. (this is where 
the wires pass through) I wonder if this could be the cause of the erratic 
reading.
