After reading this I decided to remove the gasket and clean the screen. I had bought two screens and gaskets when I bought the machine more than 18 months ago. The portafilter handle has always been around 8 o'clock and never at 6 so I figured it wasn't worn at all but thought I might take a look at the screen. Well, of course, I tore up the gasket a bit getting it off. Other than a little discoloration the old screen looks as new as the new screen. Since I had it off I went ahead and put on a new screen but it wasn't necessary. Lesson learned. Backflushing with water before I turn off the machine is keeping that screen clean as a whistle.
