I know that this is an old thread, however, in case somebody else stumbles on it doing a search I feel like someone should point out that what Steve was removing was actually thermowell and not the temp probe.
No impact driver required. The temp probes are available online for a few pounds, you will likely pay more for shipping than you will for the probe when buying just 1. The temp probe slides down inside of the thermowell.
