Hi Ira (and Jim), I think the suggestion to look at the E61 head is narrowing the problem. Per Ira's suggestion I opened up the big nut on the top of the head and pulling out the fairly corroded stem that sits on a spring inside the head. Once I did that...I got some water trickling out of the head screen...not much but first water..so we know water is getting there. I don't know what the mushroom is so I don't know how to deal with that. I did take of the screen from the head and brush the metal head under there...probably need to try a toothpick or something to clean it out...and also de-scale the screen etc.
I was able to start up the pump when relatively cold and did get drips of water from the hot water tap...also steam wand provides water (more). Any further advice would be appreciated as it looks like we're getting close.
