Oh, I certainly got a mild depression - for about 10 minutes. :o) I think
that had something to do with my determination to experience post-natal
depression. :o)
On a more serious note though, I have been trying to find out what the
figures are for post-natal depression in India. I have not been able to find
any studies on it, not even in the Women's studies centre in my uni.
Then I asked around and found out that apparently post natal depression
seems to be mainly restricted to mothers who gave birth to girls. THe
figures I have come up with [nothing formal, just tabulation of what around
50 people have said] seem to indicate that around 40% of new mothers who
have had baby girls tend to get seriously depressed.
It is anybody's guess though if this depression is due to the hormonal
fluctuations or societal reactions to the birth of a girl.

I credit Dan with a lot of that -- he was really upbeat and

That sounds remarkably familiar. I called John to tell him that I had
started labor. His response was 'Huh, uh-huh, Ritz, huh'. :o)It took him
around 2-3 minutes to kick-start his brain again.
:o)
