Let me start by saying that I believe that Israel's current actions are horribly 
misgided at the very least because they cannot hope to achieve their goal (peace and 
security) with this policy. But I think that they are carrying out these attacks 
because they believe that the groups and individuals that they are targetting are 
actively part of the current cycle of violence. They are targetting individuals and 
groups they hold responsible for violence against their population. Also understand 
that the Israeli populace is deeply divided on this issue. Not at the moment. The 
latest round of violence was precipitated by the failure of the camp david talks. 
Blame this on whomever you choose. But this lead to the palestinian attacks and the 
increasingly violent Israeli response.
