It's fiction, but aims to be based on reality, as I understand. I've never
seen the show, I'm afraid, but my cousin is a writer for it.

What disturbs me most about The Fool's writings in this thread is the
assumption that religion == fanaticism, therefore all Christians are
fanatics. They aren't, and the most visible ones often seem to behave in
ways that are difficult to reconcile with Christian doctine. Nor are all
capitalists greed-heads.

I disagree strongly with the notion that boycotting advertisers is
blackmail. If the product were really the television show in question, then
that argument might hold water. But the product is most assuredly the
delivery of viewer's attention to the advertisers. A boycott of the
advertisers puts pressure in the right spot -- they're paying the bills.
The hypocrisy of the whole structure is that the media companies pretend
(and too many of us go along with the pretense) that they only deliver what
the public wants.

And for what it's worth, I won't touch Windows XP, for the very reasons
stated. I'll fight any closed standards for intellual property rights
"management." I think the worst sin a technology company can commit these
days is to try to corrupt an open standard to make it proprietary... Those
are all poison to free speech and free markets.

Nick
