Yo! Some of my opinions - not my club's.
Am I the only person who's not pleased with UKU's decisions on stuff this year? For a start we've been forced into playing an "open tour" months before the actual tour just cos some people moaned about a terribly scheduled B tour 1 last year. Oh - or was it to allow more student teams? My arse - how many more students teams went? The students have loads of competitions - they're not in desperate need of more. ffs, all this bollocks about "teams changing" and "let us play in the A tour - we can't be bothered to qualify" is there to be ignored. We've actually missed an event this year. When was the last time that happened??? Remember Toaster anyone - my god that was shite, but at least we still got to play ultimate. I'm fairly sure that there isn't a single person who wouldn't put up with cold showers for the chance to play a tourny - prolly about half the tournaments I've ever played have had freezing showers, and I'd moan - but I'd at least be playing a tournament. Foreign teams on tour. hmmm. There's 4 teams who want this to happen. They're the top 4 teams. Hang on - aren't there 16 teams in the A tour? All who have worked hard to "qualify"? Who cares - lets just let the top 4 teams get their own way, and push a team into the B tour - I don't know any of their players anyways, so they ain't gonna bother me. Paddy murphy are pretty damn amazing, putting in huge amounts of effort to make sure they can play in our tours - if only they knew the right preson to charm, they could just come and go when they pleased. I hate getting annoyed - especially cos I know a few of the UKU people, and they are nice / committed / hard working etc. But does that mean they're getting it right? Not in my brain. You could say "get involved tom - help out with your ideas/opinions" - but right now I'm pretty sure that common sense would come up with the right answers - not more people mixing it up. Solution? Yup, there is one. Get it right. There's more. Right now we pay quite a lot of money (whatever - tell me what a good deal we'regetting why don't ya?) for stuff that used to be free, and just as well organised (toaster still happened even if it was total arsewipe). Having the UKU try to sort out 8 weekends of my year seems too much. Why not give them 4 (regionals/natties open/coed/womens). That would leave loads more time for smaller team/individual run tournament that we could choose to go to. Right now I feel failry bad that we "had" to go to tour 0. Get rid of it, and let me choose what I wanna do, by giving me more free weekends for fun/tune up tournies. Dammit - I've sounded harsh on the UKU, and am happy to get loads of replies sticking up for them to make me feel better again. Sorry to those on the UKU I know and respect - I still do, I'm just a little annoyed. Jaimie - give me some shit back please, I love your work.
