Karen: Before we claim we support X memory, we have to test it to make sure that it works. It also needs to be in the regular testing as well.
If we use zfs, I believe the minimum memory requirement is 1 GB of memory. If you use anything lower than 1 GB, you will have performance issues. I don't know whether the memory requirement to install ZFS had changed recently. So it is not just the simple task of whether you can install the system in a certain amount of memory , even if you can install it, but it is not usable afterwards, it is not going to help. I remembered doing memory requirement testing for various Solaris releases. I tested on the lowest memory machine before S10 Ships after smf is integrated, I have a very difficult time getting smf to work on low memory systems. It kept on timing out because the timeout value was tuned for fast machines and not for slow machines.
