Just an update on my 8x10 enlarger project. I bought a sheet of styrene from Home Depot, the stuff used for lights in a drop ceiling. I figured five dollars was a good investment to see if my homemade light box would work. Using it as the diffusion screen for the light box of (12) 40 watt light bulbs I was able to project a 8x10 negative onto my portable screen for slide viewing. An enlargement of 3 feet wide was no problem and the detail was incredible.
The light looks nice and even as is, but I will probably go to 16 light bulbs with a fan to cool the light box. The heat build up is not near as bad as I thought. For the final diffusion screen I will go purchase a sheet of plex' and use a sheet of heat absorbing glass to protect the plex. Using my monorail camera is going to be a pain so I am thinking about building a stand alone enlarger instead of using the camera as the enlarger. I will build something that is easier to hold rigid and just make a straight bellows instead of a tapered set. I am not sure whether to make it vertical or horizontal yet.
