You're right (barring a typo). With those big honkers on the screws directly, they would have the torque to respond to the commands without drive reduction (and function with higher cpr encoders). But with the smaller motors, they will be required to opperate at higher rpms (thus more torque) and not immediately fall too far behind in commanded position thus faulting out.
