Dear Judy My name is Herlinda. I'm an experienced woman ocean cruiser, trying to break into the world of canal boat life. (What do you folks who live on canal boats call yourselves? We ocean going folks call ourselves "cruisers".)
I'm writing to you because you are a woman (I haven't noticed many women on the canals-list) and you probably understand the perils of vulnerability to do with being female at sea/river/canal! I'm planning a trip to the UK and Europe, arriving in a few weeks (spontaneity at work) and what I really REALLY want to do is meet some people who live on narrowboats, as this is what I wish to do for the next 5-10 years. Would you be so kind as to possibly direct me to where/who I might contact for a non-commercial introduction into the life of narrowboat life? I have lived aboard for many years on a monohull in the Pacific so I know better than to whine and can pay my own way and then some. A parting thought...I live in Hawaii and have a house on a glorious beach. If someone were to want to trade hosting....I'd be open for that. website link for house info: http://www.vrbo.com/92758 Aloha! Hope to hear from you :0) Herlinda Lopez Waimanalo HI USA ----- Original Message ----- From: Judy Voets <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Thursday, July 6, 2006 7:43 am Subject: [canals-list] Re: Grumpy old people on Narrow Boats To: [email protected] > The grumpiest reads the San Francisco Chronicle ... ;-} > > Stan > > >--- In [email protected], "Nigel Stanley" > ><[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> > >> On 26/06/06, Julian <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> > >> > Apart from Terry on Arun most of the people on passing boats > >seemed to be > >> > well in their 60's on highly polished and gleaming narrow boats > >and grumpy > >> > with it. > >> > >> > Has this now become the "norm" ? > >> > > >> > Whatever happened to having a good time boating? > >> > >> > Julian > >> > Who although he is over 50 still believes he is in his 30's > >> > >> We live in an increasingly privatised, suspicious world.
