Crack open the paddle needed to hold the far gates closed the first
time you pass it. (That also makes closing the gates easier, BTW.
Common working days practice).

Or even if they don't. The same total amount of work is still done.
Again, you aren't seeing the bigger picture.

No, it doesn't. It conveniences those approaching you, and is neutral
to those behind you (as they can choose to leave the gates open too).

Nope. The crew can easily step off in the lock mouth on to the lock
side at the top of the lock as the boat enters the lock. And take a
look at the bottom of (e.g.) a GU lock next time you pass one. There
are steps specially placed so the crew can step off there too as the
boat enters.

No again. Particularly valid for solos, but also valid for non-solos.

I'm too polite to answer that <g>.

In fact, both your provisos could be violated and my argument would
still be valid.

Something to do with having been brainwashed by BW, or overly awed by
authority, perhaps.
And it is clearly not only I who has that view.

No, once more. I simply insist that another's argument be correct
before I accept it.

I always hope for utopia, and not just on the waterways..
