But, do the calculations involving 9% plus RPI per year compounded for
the next three years and you'll find that you'll be paying that figure
just for your normal licence in three years, never mind a Gold! And
they're going to reduce/abolish the prompt payment discount just to rub
salt into the wound.

Dont know if you can remember that far back but the discount is not actually
a discount... When it came in BW wanted to put up the licence by 10% there
was an outcry so they defered it if you paid on time. so not a discount at
all just a deffered rise.
2007 £653 actually pay £587 inc 10% discount
2008 £735 actually pay £661 inc 10% discount
2009 £847 actually pay £805 inc 5% discount
2010 £952 actually pay £952 inc 0% discount
2011 ???????

At least with the EA you can buy a 3year licence to mitigate the rises and
yes it does pay if you invest the money you would save less.
I think that there may well be very few boat builders left by 2012 not to
mention no boaters.
