You Are unlikely to enjoy boating in North America than as we are cursed with nothing but no wake zones. There are however many pluses to respecting the no wake zones as much as I hate going slow. The damage to publicly underfunded waterways is substantially reduced not to mention all the damage to persons and personal property. I here everyone pissing and moaning about all the green captains on the waterways but then we would be happy to have those same green helmsman zipping along at speed?

I think not. It is simply a convention certain people would like to impose on others. If you boat in France or Belgium, you will find that the commercial traffic there does not slow down for moored boats. The assumption seems to be that the waterway is for the movement of craft, not the mooring of them, so if you want to do the latter then you must take into account the former running at their usual speeds. I think that is how it should be. So I feel that mooring on-line should be considered to imply that you tie up in such a way that you won't be disrupted by craft passing at anything up to breaking-wash speed. This probably means good-sized well-set pins, good-sized ropes, appropriate knots/hitches, and spring lines. Also not mooring where it is dead shallow.
