Our hospital server is busy with the patient registration for days and years.
I mean, I don't want to give another work load to install another web server or application server. Sometimes, we need to restart the server because of slow response. I believe that we shouldn't introduce another web server or application server on care2x. The installation process can also be more complicated.
And care2x system was used some third party modules, that are outdated and we need to upgrade our core system modules. i.e adodb, mysql 5, php 5 etc. Because some php reporting projects are using PHP 5.
And our reporting module should be built in with the existing system. Browse between modules to get the specific results and print that result.
I mean, we should generate the page to display before we are decided to print on pdf or export to other format.
I found some project that works with xml,php 5, and hoping it can fulfil our needs. But we need to check more on that project.
http://phpreports.sourceforge.net/index.html
Please check that link and suggest. Can we upgrade care2x to php 5 ?

Hi Kaloyan,
Cool huh, this mailinglist is really swinging currently. Let's see where this is heading!
Eclipse-Birt needs a Tomcat application server, but then it's 100% webbased. From looking a bit at the JasperReports option, this can use the java-php bridge, and then does not need a seperate appserver. (it does need a Java Runtime installed)
BIRT looks really cool though, but JasperReports is definitly a mature product that is used in a lot of projects.
Do the advantages of BIRT (i think its a bit more advanced and we seem to have someone with experience on this list) outweight the disadvantage of telling our hospitals to run Tomcat to do reporting?

Kaloyan Raev wrote:Hi,
It's great that there is discussion started about reporting tool.
There should be many solution that would fit to care2x. As a guideline I
would recommend to search for one with gpl-compatible license and
compatible with php 4/5. This way it can be integrated in the user
interface in care2x as new module or part of the existing modules.
About Eclipse-BIRT: isn't this plugins that extends the Eclipse
platform? These means that if somebody needs the reports it have to
start this Eclipse-extended application. I see the reporting tool not as
a separate application, but as part of the current care2x user
interface. But nevertheless, whatever you decide will be better than the
current situation.
About the question who should do this: I see there are many interested
people. I recommend that you proceed discussing this, come to a common
understanding and idea for solution and then organise yourselves to
implement this. You can use the care2x wiki to log your progress and
discussions for this feature.

Great, when will you be finished? :-))
no kidding, good suggestion. Are there more people who know a platform
and who have experience with it?
Are there people who are willing to see if they could build an alpha
version for care2x using any of the proposed platforms?

Hi Everybody,
I agree Care2x needs a reporting tool so please check on the Eclipse
foundation BIRT tool
http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/ . We have hand on experience with
it and found it to be just exactly what they say it is. BIRT is an open
source, Eclipse-based reporting system that integrates with your
application to produce compelling reports for both web and PDF.
I can highly recommend it and it is easy to integrate.

Hi Everybody,
The easy-to-use reportin tool is one of the most important things that is
missing in Care2x. We are also making the routine reports, and also hope
that DHIS will be integrated to Care2x as an advanced analysing and
reporting tool.
But the ideal would be to have a flexible userfriendly module within the main
branch for this task. I hope software developers would find an open source
solution for this. The Italina Olympic committee has a reporting tool which is
quite flexible, could it be used as a base to further develop.

Hi,
I think everybody who installs care2x sooner or later will need some sort of reporting. Yet, there is
no reporting mechanism in care2x. Everybody is programmatically building his or her own reports,
probably some reports are or will be almost the same. (raise your finger if you have Registrations
per Month reports)
Now, if there would be one reporting engine in (or besides) care2x which would be able to
generate reports. What would the requirements of such a piece of software be?
Just to start that thread off, some ideas:
- It should be able to generate reports in different formats: html, pdf, xml, csv, tab delimited
- It should be templatable, so you can re-use the formatting in different reports
- It should be able to produce 'Lists', but also Charts
- It should be able to handle the following entities by default, but be extensible for future or custom
modules:
- Patient
- Departments
- Appointments
- Admission
- Requests
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Wards
- OP Rooms
- Laboratory/Blood Bank
- Tests
- Pharmacy
- Pharmacy Product
- Medical Depot
- Medical Depot Product
- Of these entities the relation to other entities should be requestable where applicable (Pharmacy
Products per Department, Appointment per Patient, Nurses per Doctor etc)
- All reports should be 'filterable' on all information available in the Entities. (A report about
Admissions per Month for the Oncology Department for 2004)
- It should be a non-programmers task to define new Reports.
- It should be a non-programmers task to run Reports.
- The Reporting Engine only creates reports for day to day data. If you want to do real agregation
of data, you would need to use DHIS.
My question: what else should care2x report generator be able to do? (or should not)
rgds,
Reinier Battenberg
PS
Next question: how do we manage these requirements as a care2x group?
Next question: who builds this, even though everyone will use it?
Next question: can we use JasperReports to generate the reports? And then build a nice module
around it? (somebody has done such a thing for SugarCRM. It seems like a pragmatic idea
http://www.sugarforge.org/projects/zuckerreports )

Dear kyaw,
I work for a brazilian public hospital situated in Petrópolis - RJ.
We are studying care2x to see if this software will fit our needs.
It is possible that we will need reports also, so if it will not be a
problem for you, as soon as you have your reports ready, please send them
to me. I am open to share with you also what you maybe need.
Thank you

Dear all,
The care2x system was start using on Sri lanka, since last april 2006.
Currently, one hospital is using and we are introducing to another and
another hospitals.
The hospital "Medical Record Officer", request several reports. So, I am
planning to develop summary reports for OPD, as well as Ward patients.
So, what will you recommend?
Best regards to Care2x Members,
