Saran wrap can sag especially on the vertical - I've had good luck using
discarded xray film - or something similar if you don't know a radiologist. On
mine they took hull which is grey and boot stripe which is blue together so I'm
going to just fill and then touch up with hull paint and buff it out - I saw it
done at a boat yard I was at last week and you almost couldn't tell it was
painted when they were done.

Dave.

Looks like a good project to learn about gel coat repair.
Fill and sand. Then apply gel coat and cover with plastic wrap..
If it comes out bad…. Then sand back and paint instead. If you don’t have a
paint job planned and the gel coat is otherwise in good shape then repair the
gel coat.

Subject: catalina27-talk: Gelcoat Damage

Good Morning all:
Impulsive broke free last fall during a nasty storm and pounding herself
against the finger before I could tie her down. The attached shows the damage
to the starboard corner of the transom. Been reading Casey, West System and
surfing the net looking for information. One approach – sand edges of damaged
area to a beveled edge, apply filler (resin+hardener+fairing filler), sand then
paint.
Any thoughts, ideas?
