What a great bed! I can't wait to try and duplicate it. My wife will love the added sleeping space. I'm glad to hear that the air mattress seems to fit. That will really make a difference.
I do have a couple of questions. So the stringers are 1x2s rather than 2x4s. Is that correct? I'm not clear on why you chose to round the edges. Wouldn't it fit just as snug with the original rectangular shape? And is it just at the ends of the stringers or did you curve the entire bottom side of the boards?

- FWIW, I'm thinking of using a double-size air mattress, which should fit nicely widthwise. Most are 54 inches, and I measure a 55-inch width of the narrower (port) settee. Lengthwise it may be a bit of a squeeze. Most mattresses are 74 inches, and I measure 70 inches at the short (fore) side of the new berth. But I'm thinking it should work if I keep the mattress slightly under-inflated.

I attached a pic of how the inside looks bedless (I left the photo pretty big so you can see detail). If you look closely you can see the cutouts for the stringers with the topping strip. The wide trim strips lengthwise under each berth were replaced with thicker mahogany but level with the berth, with a removable finishing trim that fits in with dowels along the top so there is a lip for the cushions again.
