Sounds like a really difficult project but you pulled it off admirably.... If
it's any consolation I've read in other forums that if it was mounted further
aft that the keel would interfere with the accuracy and operation of the
transducer so you can pat yourself on the back..... Russ

version of what I installed

Sorry no pics of the actual installation. My C27 is a dinette model and I
glued the pvc pipe (just a piece of 4” diameter about 4 inches in length—I
think it’s the male adapter you mentioned) in the void under the dinette table.
On this pic http://www.lesleyquin.com/downthehatch.jpg it would be just under
where the post holding the table up is. A PO put an access hatch under the
table that makes it easy to check but it was a bit of a $%^&$$## to install.
Basically I had to do it all by feel. Once the pipe was solidly attached I
just gooped the Vasaline into the pipe, stuck the puck into the pipe and
wiggled it around until I got a good transmission signal. I think it’s a
margarine tub lid glued over top to keep the grease inside. So far so good.

If I had my druthers I’d put it further aft as near the centerline as
possible.

  Hope this helps.

Lesley, Does West Marine sell the puck type transducer? Also what size
pvc did you use. I've heard of using a 4" pvc male adapter, gluing it under
the port settee as far forward as possible and filling it with mineral oil, and
then screwing on a female type 4" end cap. The vasoline sounds like a better
idea. Where did you locate the puck and do you have any pictures? I've been
trying to get the time to install my 250C Garmin that I was going to mount on a
swinging arm just inside the cabin on the starboard side so it can be viewed
from the wheel (hopefully) and also so it will swing inside out of the weather
when not in use. My buddy is a blue water delivery captain and when we sailed
from La Paz to Mazatlan the arrangement was really handy. Thanks Russ

I have my "puck" type transducer mounted against the hull of my
74 C27 in a pice of pvc pipe that is filled with Vasoline. Works
great and as it is against the hull stays cool and doesn't melt and
make a mess (at least up here in the Pacific Northwest).
