March 11 , 2013

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     3/15: A SHORT-EARED OWL was found at the end of Carncross Road. It was 
relocated on 3/16 and 3/17.
     3/16: 4 SANDHILL CRANES were seen from Morgan Road.


Derby Hill
------------

     A slow week at Derby Hill with only 683 hawks counted. The first TREE 
SWALLOW of the season was seen on 3/11.


Oswego County
------------

     3/12: As EURASIAN WIGEON was found at Big Bay Marina off of Camic Road in 
Brewerton on Oneida Lake.. This bird was seen again on 3/13 and 3/15.
     3/15: A drake BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen at Big Bay Marina on Oneida Lake.
     3/17: 19 species of waterfowl including a CACKLING GOOSE were seen at Big 
Bay Marina on Oneida Lake.
     3/18: A very rare for Region 5 PINK-FOOTED GOOSE was found in a field on 
Rt .264 just south of Biddlecum Road North of Phoenix. The bird flew with 
Canada Geese to another location on Co. Rt.54 off of Rt. 264 and was eventually 
refound again on Co. Rt. 10 north of Bell Road near Pennelville. The bird 
appeared to be an adult.


Cayuga County
------------

     3/12: A female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was found at Fairhaven State Park on 
Lake Ontario.


Onondaga County
------------

     3/13: An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen in Tully.
     3/16: PINE SISKINS and a FOS FOX SPARROW were seen at a feeder in Pompey.


Oneida County
------------

     3/14: A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was seen at a residence in Clinton County. 
It returned the next day but has not been seen since.


Jefferson County
------------

     3/17: An EURASIAN WIGEON was seen in the bay in Point Peninsula near 
Watertown. It was also seen the next day.
