I agree with Joerg, it's a pain to answer always the same questions to people new to
linux.
I know it is a distribution thing to distribute the kernel with ide-scsi enabled and
ide-cd disabled.
It is easier with ide-cd as ide-scsi has the moving devices problem (scd1 is scd0 when
you remove the
first cdrom...).
As always no _default_ is good for every one, but I think defaults should make things
easier for actual
hardware as long as it don't complicates old hardware setup. If ide-scsi solves both
problems what's
the point for making ide-cd the default? not including SCSI in the kernel? just for
some Kb? The people
that cares about these Kbs will recompile the kernel anyway. In the other hand, your
frustating a lot of
people that just wants to burn a simple CD.
